Nonprofit Innovation
The Canadian Cancer Society, Ontario Division, received an Innovator Award in the Email Communications category for their online outreach efforts involving the organization’s 2009 Relay for Life events. To promote the campaign, the Canadian Cancer Society engaged Charity Dynamics to develop a comprehensive online marketing plan to recruit past supporters as well as increase participation, fundraising and retention of the current year’s participants for more than 100 Relay for Life events. The emails also were used to introduce and encourage supporters to utilize Boundless Fundraising™, an innovative social networking application developed by Charity Dynamics. Boundless Fundraising enables event participants to leverage their Facebook networks to connect with more donors, increase awareness and more effectively reach their fundraising goals.
The YAI Network—an organization dedicated to creating hope and opportunity for people with developmental and learning disabilities and their families—received a notable mention in the Innovator Awards for their strategic use of the online channel to support the organization’s annual Central Park Challenge. With Charity Dynamics’ guidance, YAI launched their event in the midst of a tough economic climate and proceeded to surpass their fundraising goal, raising more than $1.4 million and increasing participation by more than 50 percent compared to the previous year.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP) also received a notable mention from Convio for the organization’s innovative use of open technology. Charity Dynamics worked with NTHP to launch a creative and engaging social media campaign, This Place Matters, to increase member engagement and acquisition. Utilizing open technology, This Place Matters included a social media strategy involving Google Maps and Flickr. The goal was to open up a two-way dialogue with constituents while providing a creative platform for them to engage and participate in new ways with the organization.
