Last week we kicked off our 4th year of the Fundraising Roundtable Series with our first visit to Toronto. It was great to connect with so many organizations doing great work and growing their programs. The day started out with a panel sharing insights on making their programs available through mobile devices, registration fees, retention, 0$ fundraisers and some things that haven’t worked so well. Thank you to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Canadian MS Society and Canadian Cancer Society. I led a session on Managing Your Event 365 Days a Year. By using a football analogy I broke the session into pre-season, game day, in season, post season and end zone wrap up. Managing your participants throughout the year is so important because studies show that for so many events you’re almost starting from scratch because of current retention benchmarks. Deepa Karani and Nancy Palo led a session on Creating a Fundraising Culture. The session provided great information and pulled he audience in by posing the question, “How do you connect participants with your mission?” It was great to hear how organizations are using story telling, pictures, service recipients and impact statements to highlight their mission. I can’t wait to head to NYC and DC for this week’s Fundraising Roundtable events!
