Emergency Fundraising Fuels
How the Greater Chicago Food Depository and Charity Dynamics applied key digital strategies to meet the challenges of COVID-19
When the coronavirus pandemic hit this spring, community food banks instantly found themselves on the frontlines of the response effort. At the Greater Chicago Food Depository, staff sprang into action not only in getting food to those in need but also in helping people apply for federal nutrition and medical benefits among other services. Through their partnership with Charity Dynamics, the Food Depository quickly adjusted its fundraising outreach to continue meeting those needs — to astounding results.
In an in-depth case study, Charity Dynamics principal consultant Tara Mermis takes us through the key factors involved in the Food Depository’s tremendous fundraising success, including:
- Using a robust multichannel campaign and communications strategy to raise $5.46+ million in 3 1/2 months in direct online gifts
- Maximizing #GivingTuesdayNow to generate $374,222 from some 2,000 individual donations
- Leveraging Social Ambassadors and other influencers to promote its COVID-19 efforts and fundraising needs. Former President Barack Obama even joined an internal zoom call to say thank you!
