Operation Smile – Smile Fund

Project Description

Using the Blackbaud TeamRaiser product, Operation Smile recently launched a user experience focused, DIY website. The Smile Fund allows Operation Smile supporters to create a page and raise funds in honor of their birthday, anniversary, event participation or anything else that inspires them. By focusing on a simplified registration and fundraising process, the site will allow fundraisers to raise more money and bring more smiles to children around the world. Operation Smile partnered with Charity Dynamics to strategize on how to best use the platform for the ultimate fundraising experience. After a review of registration and fundraising functionality needs, Charity Dynamics crafted how to use APIs to bring those goals to life. We also worked closely with Operation Smile’s design team to ensure their designs reflected an easy path to register and had all the appropriate touch points for their fundraisers to easily fundraise and get the word out about their new Smile Fund.

After strategy and design was complete, Charity Dynamics developed the DIY website by using Blackbaud APIs. Using APIs allowed us to alter the existing, out of the box TeamRaiser registration and fundraising UX and develop a unique registration and fundraising process for Operation Smile. We also used APIs to rethink how personal fundraising pages function. Instead of forcing fundraisers to log into a participant center and navigate within the center to edit their photography and story, fundraisers can edit all of those components on the fly on their personal fundraising page. Allowing fundraisers to easily edit their story and photography helps keep them focused and excited about their Smile Fund.
