Our Charity Dynamics retained strategic services clients receive weekly status updates that allow us to plan and track initiatives that help our clients reach their digital communication and fundraising goals.

Each week, we share the most innovative ideas we see in the industry and look for ways to keep our clients on the cutting edge. Here are three of our favorite ideas from the last month:

1.Donor Retention

Bloomerang, a relative newcomer to the fundraising CRM space for small to medium sized nonprofits, has released survey results from 775 nonprofit organizations on the issue of donor retention. Check out their infograph to compared your knowledge of donor retention compared to their respondents.

For the one-third of respondents who are not currently tracking donor retention, 36% said it was because they didn’t know how or don’t have the tools to figure this critical program benchmark. Need help with calculating or increasing your donor retention? Contact your Project Manager and let’s talk about how Charity Dynamics can help.

2.Turn Your Data Into Dollars

Who doesn’t want to find more $1,000 donors? Blackbaud’s Target Analytics recently looked at the giving patterns of more than 5 million donors to find insights when and why donors made their first $1,000 gift to any organization. But you don’t necessarily need a supercomputer to do your own analysis.

It can be as simple as downloading of list of your current $1,000 donors and a few key data elements, like how long they were on your file when they made that first big gift? How did they join your organization? Do they receive direct mail, email or both? Patterns in those data can help guide your efforts on when and how to best invite other donors to make the leap to mid-level giving. Happy hunting!

3.Speed Matters

Benjamin Franklin put it best: “Lost time is never found again.” Now a new study on retail conversion makes the case that lost time may be keeping you from finding new supporters.

A new study by commissioned by web performance optimization software company SOASTA showed that a 2-second delay on visitors being able to view web sites on smartphones and tablets caused a 36.5% drop in conversion rates on desktops and 26.2% on smart phones. Even a minuscule drop in load times (100-millisecond) negatively impacted smart phone conversion rates by 7%. When was the last time you check your load times?
